Anxiety. What a word. We all know it, whether we suffer from it or we know the definition of the word. Let’s define it, shall we? Webster’s Dictionary defines Anxiety as this:
Simple Definition of anxiety
: fear or nervousness about what might happen
: a feeling of wanting to do something very much
How do you describe anxiety when it is happening to you? What do you do about it? I tend to talk. A lot. Mainly out loud, to myself, trying to justify the feeling, the nerves. Sometimes I don’t even know what I am talking about or having anxiety for. I turn to essential oils. Calming blends, lavender, uplifting ones, like citrus scents. I use them in all sorts of ways but mainly diffusing them. I try to remember my breathing, inhaling and exhaling calmly and evenly. Perhaps even inhaling for a count of 5, holding that breath for a count of 3, and exhaling for a count of 5, doing a few rounds until I feel more at ease. Alternate nostril breathing is also very good at calming a frenetic mind and focusing it on the breath. Watch the video below to see the breathing techniques I’ve discussed demonstrated.
